Invitation
for articles
Excited about writing and researching on different topics and
domains of Planning, Remote Sensing, GIS? Then you are at right place!!
Planning Insights Research Cell under #goingzero campaign cordially invites Students &
Professionals from Planning, Research, and GIS background to share the articles
and encourage them to research on trending topics in context of India across
subjects like Net-Zero, Circular Economy in Waste Management, Clean
transportation, Urbanization & Climate Change and articulate best
solutions, practices & approaches that will help to reduce the GHG emissions
and contribute to achieve the goals of Paris Agreement, Agenda 2030 and Net-Zero
commitment of India by 2070.
Themes
1. Net-Zero
India by 2070:
Net zero refers to reducing greenhouse gas
emissions to as near to zero as feasible, with any leftover emissions
reabsorbed from the atmosphere, for example, by seas and forests. One of the
most difficult issues humanities has ever faced is transitioning to a net-zero
planet. It necessitates nothing less than a total shift in how we create,
consume, and move. The energy sector is responsible for almost three-quarters
of all greenhouse gas emissions today, and it holds the key to mitigating
climate change's worst consequences. The use of renewable energy sources like
wind and solar to replace polluting coal, gas, and oil-fired power would
drastically cut carbon emissions. India just pledged to become Net-Zero by 2070
at COP 26 in Glasgow.
2. Circular
Economy in Solid Waste Management
Circular Economy (CE) in SWM is a sustainable alternative to
the traditional linear (take-make-dispose) economic model, reducing waste to a
minimum
by reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing
materials and products. According to the latest independent Circularity
Gap Report 2021, our global economy is only 8.6 % circular, wasting
91.4 % of all we use.
3. Clean Transportation
Clean transportation makes use of technology to eliminate or limit
the usage of fossil fuels, which emit greenhouse gases (GHGs). Plug-in hybrid
electric (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), hydrogen fuel cell, ethanol,
biodiesel, natural gas, and propane-powered vehicles are examples of clean
mobility. Clean transportation vehicles and infrastructure have the potential
to help India overcome its energy and environmental problems.
4. Urban
India & Climate Change
Cities are increasingly being positioned as locations of climate
action throughout the world, giving India's urban shift significant
significance. Cities are specifically included in Agenda 2030, and the 2015
Paris Climate Agreement encourages climate outcomes in national development
frameworks, with cities playing a role. India is particularly pertinent to this
issue since it is expected to undergo the world's greatest urban shift in the
next decades. Discuss how emerging climate mitigation and adaptation actions
can be mainstreamed into urban development in India's current urban moment,
synthesize the growing literature on how urban centers are responding to
climate change, and synthesize the growing literature on how urban centres are
responding to climate change.
